The film has an adhesive backing — you peel it, apply it to the inside of your glass with a wet solution, squeegee out the bubbles, and it bonds permanently to the surface as it dries. Same concept as a screen protector on your phone, just engineered to hold shattered glass together under impact.
No — the film bonds to the glass surface only, not the frame. It's applied to the inside face of the pane and trimmed to the glass edge, leaving a small gap at the perimeter. This is standard for all security window films.
The film holds the shattered glass together as a single rigid sheet, which remains held in the frame by the existing glazing bead and frame. Even without frame attachment, the combined system — film plus frame retention — resists forced entry long enough that most burglars give up. For high-security applications, an edge attachment system can be added during professional installation.
